BrainRepublic was founded in October of 2009 by Oliver Kruse, Frank Diestelhorst, and Karim Roth in Stuttgart, Germany. The group were IT consultants that wanted to find a better way to close communication gaps that appeared when interacting with each other and clients. The Brain Republic website includes a constantly changing image of people on their webcams highlighted by quotes from actual users. The colorful logo features a grid of colors beside the Brain Republic site name. The remainder of the site is primarily plain, which works well with the other elements used in the design. Users can easily post questions anonymously while others supply a response via Brain Republic video. Each step of the process is streamlined so even a novice computer user can quickly find answers or provide them.

A new user can find the registration form positioned directly on the Brain Republic homepage. The form consists of three fields which ask for a username, email address and password. After checking the terms of use and privacy policy agreement box, the user can click on the grey “Make me a member of Brain Republic!” button found at the bottom of the form. A second blue button is present at the top of the form for users that prefer to register and login using an existing Facebook account.

Brain Republic strives to remain accessible to everyone. The user community provides all the information and questions, so naturally more users is a good thing for the site as a whole. Brain Republic encourages participation by offering users a free account. Anyone can use Brain Republic to get assistance from other real people in the user community through a free account. There is a commission requirement when users choose to work with paid chats. Brain Republic takes a 30% commission from the offer price from regular members while supporting members are charged 20%. A supporting membership runs about $10 per month.
